"This was the greatest sporting final in my lifetime"
The Daily Telegraph

On July 14 2019, six years of planning culminated in hundreds of millions of fans around the world watching England win the Cricket World Cup in front of a packed crowd at Lord’s, the ‘Home of Cricket’, in London. It was a dramatic and memorable end to a hugely successful global sporting event and Global sports was proud to have supported the Cricket World Cup Organising Committee to build a delivery team that produced the most diverse cricket tournament of all time, breaking commercial and attendance ticketing records in the process. Here we share with you an insight into our partnership and how it may help you identify opportunities in attracting the best talent to your organisation.

The Opportunity

The ICC Cricket World Cup was returning for the 5th time to the UK, running over a 6 week summer period in 2019 , across 11 stadiums in the UK with a global broadcast audience anticipated to reach into the billions. Like other major sporting events, the ICC plan their complex operations years in advance, meticulously planning their staffing (both permanent and temporary).

The Challenge

The ICC needed assistance from a specialist industry partner, Global Sports, to enable them to effectively and efficiently target and reach the necessary skills and expertise required to establish and build a Local Organising Committee and to compliment their existing team in delivering the 2019 World Cup.

The ICC estimated they would require approximately 100 people across all functional levels of the organisation.

Campbell Jamieson, General Manager (Commercial & Events ) at the ICC with responsibility for the delivery of the World Cup enlisted Global Sports help to advertise, source and recruit the necessary expertise through Global Sports digital platform.

The Solution

Global Sports provided a multi-year licence across its platforms, enabling the ICC to advertise up to 100 positions, generating over 45,000 applications and over 250,000 views – further increasing the World Cups exposure to a global audience both as potential consumers and as well as candidates.

The Global Sports platform generated high quality, relevant candidates and was deemed to be a highly successful and cost effective solution delivering over 50% of all hires that were posted on the platform, and subsequently heavily used by the ICC HR teams within their World Cup recruitment strategy.

What the ICC said about the partnership:

"The ICC continues to utilise the Global Sports platform for most of its international event portfolio, as it engages with an international, diverse and professional audience, with a wide ranging skill set from both inside and outside the industry - all of whom have a common interest in sport.

Global Sports is the credible international platform for the sports industry to attract talent and build awareness in an increasingly competitive landscape.

The platform clearly delivers results, it provides the transparency, good governance and access to a level of  professionalism that is needed in this industry, ultimately providing good value for money."

Campbell Jamieson, ICC General Manager
